YOUNGSTOWN A Celebration of Life Service will be open to the public this week at Youngstown State University for Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Nicholas Cayton, who died in the line of duty.

Trooper Cayton, born Sept. 9, 1985, was assisting a disabled tractor-trailer along State Route 11 in Canfield on Thursday when a truck struck his cruiser from behind, forcing it into the semi-trailer. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The service will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025, at YSU’s Beeghly Center, 224 West Spring St. in Youngstown. Doors will open for seating at noon, and the service will begin at 1 p.m.

Cayton, who was a Salem resident, turned 40 in September.

Arbaugh Pearce Greenisen Funeral Home , located in Salem, is handling arrangements.
