With legislation to ban speed cameras coming from the Ontario government as early as this week, the velocity at which Premier Doug Ford has announced his intention to ban them has led to a scattershot approach across municipalities as they figure out what to do with their programs.
Some municipalities still hope to convince Ford to change his mind, as their programs continue. Others are looking to recoup lost revenue from implementing the programs and lost ticket revenue. Meanwhile parent and neighbourhood groups are organizing grassroots events, including a provincial day of action on Monday, with protests planned from Ottawa to Waterloo, and a “stroller circle,” earlier this month.
