Manchester United icon David Beckham has been approached to back a takeover bid at Old Trafford, according to the latest reports.

The latest editions of the Star and Mirror build upon reports which claim a consortium from the United Arab Emirates are preparing to make an offer to buy the Glazers majority shares in the club.

They state that the consortium would like Beckham - who already has ownership interests in Inter Miami and Salford - to be an ambassador for the bid.

It adds the group will give the 50-year-old the opportunity to invest in United , having been critical of the Glazers' tenure and called for the Americans to sell the club in 2023.
