Kevin Muscat's move to become the new Rangers manger is stalling, talkSPORT understands.

However, the deal is in limbo after Muscat spoke with sporting director Kevin Thelwell and chief executive Patrick Stewart.

Thelwell's level of influence is believed to be one of the reasons Steven Gerrard killed out a return to Ibrox .

Former Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl also pulled out of the running after the Gers stepped up their interest in Muscat, currently in charge of Chinese league leaders Shanghai Port.
