A 53-year-old pedestrian died Saturday after being struck by a vehicle in Quebec City.

The Quebec City Police (SPVQ) was called to Wilfrid-Hamel Blvd. around 8 p.m. following the accident.

“When the first police officers arrived on the scene, there were citizens providing first aid to the pedestrian,” reported SPVQ officer Laurence Godbout.

The victim was then taken to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, a 30-year-old man, was not injured, nor was his passenger.

A large security perimeter was set up on the boulevard Saturday evening as SPVQ investigators attempted to clarify the causes and circumstances surrounding the tragedy. The boulevard was reopened to traffic Sunday morning.
