CANTERBURY, N.H. —

A 20-year-old from Massachusetts died early Sunday after a high-speed police pursuit ended in a crash on Interstate 93 in Canterbury, New Hampshire, according to New Hampshire State Police.

Benjamin Tapia-Gately, of Saugus, was driving a blue 2020 Honda Civic when a trooper attempted to stop him for speeding on I-93 northbound near Exit 12 at 12:51 a.m., state police said in a statement. Gately failed to stop and a pursuit began, with the Honda traveling erratically at speeds reaching 120 mph, according to the announcement.

"As the Honda approached Exit 18, the driver attempted to take the off-ramp but lost control. The vehicle went off the road, crossed the northbound on-ramp, went down an embankment, and struck a tree," state police wrote.
