National School Bus Safety week begins Sunday, the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office says.

Every year, the initiative aims to highlight the importance of keeping children safe as they ride the bus.

"As students travel to and from school each day, the HCSO reminds drivers to stay alert and follow all traffic laws around school buses and in school zones," the agency said in a social media post.

Whether you're behind the wheel, on foot, or waiting at the bus stop, they urge everyone to remember these lawful safety tips:

Stop for school buses displaying flashing red lights and extended stop arms

Slow down in school zones and watch for children crossing the street

Avoid distractions and stay focused on the road

Teach children to look both ways and wait for the driver's signal before cross
