SAPELO ISLAND, Ga. (WTOC) - Sunday, October 19 marks one year since the Sapelo Island gangway collapse.

Seven lives were lost that day, and over 20 others fell into the water as the gangway collapsed.

What started as a day of celebration at last year’s Cultural Day on Sapelo Island became the scene of tragedy.

In the weeks following the collapse, the community gathered to honor the seven lives lost.
