Week 8 of the N.J. football season is here and it’s the last chance for the state’s public schools to prove themselves for a playoff spot.

The cutoff is on Oct. 26 and Thursday-Saturday will either make or break the 2025 campaign for many teams.

The postseason in the NJIC has been in action for a week already and Friday is the league’s championship game between reigning champion Butler (7-0) and 2021-23 champ Rutherford (7-0). Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Tryon Field in Rutherford.

On the non-public front, Bergen Catholic is hosting St. Joseph (Mont.) in a premier matchup that should have an impact on Non-Public A seeding, but Week 8 is the week N.J.’s public programs will be sweating out playoff positioning.
