SUMTER, S.C. — The City of Sumter is inviting residents to take part in a special event aimed at honoring and preserving the unique history of three of its most iconic westside neighborhoods: Westend, Hampton Park, and Mason Croft.

Full of rich history and cultural character, these neighborhoods are now at the center of a new effort to highlight and protect their legacy.

"About a year ago, the City of Sumter was awarded a grant from the Historic Preservation Office using National Park Service funding to offset the cost of conducting a comprehensive historic resource survey,” said Kyle Kelly, senior planner for the City of Sumter. “The federal government is covering half the cost associated.”
