WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - Hundreds came out in Wichita on Sunday to help fight kidney disease.
They were participating in the annual Kidney Walk. Money from the race is used for transplant research and to create educational awareness campaigns teaching people across the country about kidney disease.
One of the volunteers and someone who has gotten a kidney disease herself says building awareness is key to helping people fight this disease.
"We can't really control deceased donation numbers, but we can control the amount of people who are healthy and willing to donate one of their kidneys," Zoe Schumacher, who is on the committee for the national kidney walk in Wichita, said.
