The Boston Red Sox went to Tampa and Toronto for a six-game road series against the Rays and Blue Jays later in September, looking for their first playoff berth since 2021.

They ended up clinching at home, but those series were important in helping them reach their goal. On September 24, Wilyer Abreu once again helped his team with his glove. Alejandro Kirk hit a line drive to right field, but Abreu decided to throw to first base to try to get him out — and he did. Game over.

«I didn’t think too much about it,” Abreu told El Emergente a few days ago in Spanish. “It wasn’t planned at all. Honestly, I was ready for any play that was right in front of me. I saw (Nathaniel) Lowe going to first base, and it was hard contact. I just saw the opportunity and threw to first base.”
