FLANDREAU, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - The opening weekend for pheasant season in South Dakota always draws in hunters from all over. Many come back to the same spots, towns, or hunting lodges that they know to meet up with familiar faces.

The rooster rush draws in people from all walks of life, including former professional athletes.

Former Oakland Athletics and Minnesota Twins catcher Terry Steinbach was part of a hunt at Al’s Dream just outside of Flandreau this weekend.

Steinbach said getting to spend time with others while enjoying nature is what the hunt is all about.
