KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Earlier this week, a Blue Valley teacher was terminated for violating school policy. According to reports, the firing stemmed from an incident where the teacher picked up a special needs student and moved them to a safe part of her classroom.

The teacher, Barb Hart, spoke to FOX4 earlier this week as well.

“I miss my students deeply, and I truly appreciate each and every individual who has supported me and spoken on my behalf. This has sparked meaningful conversations that absolutely need to continue," she said.

Now, the family of the student who was picked up and moved is making their voice heard as well. FOX4 obtained a letter addressed to the school board, which the Kansas Department of Education told FOX4 was responsible for the decision.
