A northern beaches family outbid developers and investors, securing the keys to a six-bedroom duplex in Manly at auction on Saturday.

The art deco building at 3 Iluka Avenue was just about to be sold at $4.85 million when a local couple who hadn’t yet made an offer swooped in with a single $10,000 bid and bought it for $4.86 million.

Guided between $4.2 million and $4.6 million, six parties registered and four placed bids for the property in the beachside suburb.

Bidding opened at $4.2 million. Bids rose in $100,000 and $50,000 increments to $4.5 million, where it was called on the market. Rapid bidding continued in $10,000 and $5000 increments until the property sold for $310,000 more than its $4.55 million reserve.
