NEWBURGH, Ind. (WEHT) -- Historic Newburgh Ghostly Hayrides started this weekend featuring eerie tales and historical legends.

The family-friendly event combines history and ghost stories. The tour includes stories from the town's early civil war era and the 19-hundreds. Visitors get to learn about haunted homes and mysterious events. Tours begin at the Historic Newburgh Trailhead Visitor Center.

“It has been a wonderful, wonderful event, and I think everybody has been hearing about it and seeing and spreading the word, and as a nonprofit, it's really important to be able to spread the word around and let them know, because all this money goes right back into our community,” Karen Stevens said.

Newburgh is also holding its Halloween Illuminations event which continues next weekend.
