GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Families visiting Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery said poor maintenance conditions have made it difficult to honor their loved ones, prompting calls for change from cemetery management.
Judy Eastman, who has several family members buried at the cemetery including her Vietnam veteran father, said her brother and sister-in-law discovered missing memorial items during recent visits.
“My brother and sister-in-law, they frequent quite a bit,” Eastman said. “They come out and replace flowers on a lot of our family and they called me one day and said, hey, that light pole that you made for mom and dad, it’s gone.”
Eastman also said she has seen the veteran marker on her father’s grave damaged, with the top portion completely broken off.
