New York State Police have discovered human skeletal remains in Sodus, Wayne County, according to the New York State Polce.

Troopers over the weekend said that the discovery occurred on Wednesday, Oct. 15. A property owner located the remains in a wooded area of Champlin Road and called 911.

Search efforts continued over the next few days and additional bones were recovered as authorities excavated the area, said Trooper Lynnea Crane.

A forensic anthropologist conducted a preliminary examination and determined that the remains are believed to be human. The Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office is to further analyze and identify the remains.

Champlin Road is just off Route 14 in Sodus, roughly 35 miles east of Rochester.
