CHESTER – Now that Orange County purchased an old school in Chester, planning is underway to renovate and convert it into a technical training academy.
County Executive Steven Neuhaus said it will be modeled after a similar facility in Rensselaer County.
“You start in that curriculum and after about a month, they realize you are passing the classes, you get offered a job by one of four different companies – General Electric, Global Foundries, all these big tech giants that are up in the capital area, and they pay for your schools for the next two years, and get you certified and trained,” he said. “We want to copy that here.”
Neuhaus said SUNY Orange and Orange-Ulster BOCES are on board with the plans to develop the job training program.
