LORDSTOWN, Ohio - The topic of an ordinance to ban the establishment and operation of data centers in the Village of Lordstown will once again be a topic of discussion at a village council meeting Monday night.

Discussion of this ordinance began at council's October 6 meeting in response to SoftBank and Foxconn's plans to convert part of the former General Motors assembly plant into an AI server manufacturing facility.

If passed, the ordinance would allow for some exemptions, including those for SoftBank, as well as for municipal or emergency service data infrastructure operated by the village or authorized agents and small-scale server rooms smaller than 500 square feet and not the primary use of the property.

Council will have a second hearing on the matter Monday at 6 p.m.
