SOUTH BEND — Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita 's lawsuit against St. Joseph County Sheriff Bill Redman has been dismissed.

St. Joseph Superior Court Judge Jenny Pitts Manier, acting as a special judge in the case after Circuit Court Judge John Broden recused himself , ruled Oct. 17, 2025 to grant Redman's motion to dismiss the lawsuit.

Rokita filed the lawsuit in January , claiming Redman's department has policies in place to limit officers' communication with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement , not releasing information to ICE and not honoring detainers, which are requests from ICE to local law enforcement agencies to hold undocumented immigrants after they have been released on local charges in order for ICE agents to take custody of that person.
