PEORIA, Ill. – The murder trial of Sean Grayson begins Monday in Peoria.
Grayson is the former Sangamon County Sheriff’s deputy who is accused in the shooting death of Sonya Massey on July 6th of last year.
Massey had reportedly called to investigate a “prowler” to her home, with Grayson and another officer responding.
Body camera footage reportedly shows Massey removing a pot of water from a stove at the officer’s request, with Grayson allegedly shooting Massey after he told her to put the pot down.
Massey reportedly made no apparent verbal threats or movement towards the officers.
A venue change from Springfield to Peoria was granted in April.
Various road closures will take place during the day during the trial.
