Two proposed battery energy projects received city council support last week.

The project applications by Aypa Power Canada LP will be submitted to the Ontario Independent Electric System Operator (IESO) as part of its request for proposal for projects that will help grow the electricity supply and battery storage capacity across the province to ensure sufficient supply in the 2030’s and beyond.

The proposal will see construction and operation of long-term capacity services projects located on municipal lands at 1091 Grat Northern Road.

The projects have a combined value of $750 million.

Ordrej Benjik, Aypa’s director of development, said the company has more than 80 projects in various stages of development, two approved by the IESO.
