North Carolina lawmakers advanced a proposal to redraw the state’s congressional districts on Monday — part of a nationwide, Republican-led effort to help the GOP maintain control of Congress in 2026.
The state Senate, with a vote of 25-20, approved a new map released last week by state legislative leaders — to be followed by another vote, more of a formality, on Tuesday after which the new districts will go to the state House for consideration. The vote in the House will be the last in a multi-step process to approve the map, which is expected to give North Carolina Republicans another seat in Congress.
