The UK government has responded to calls to increase the amount of paternity leave given to new parents.

It comes after MP for Sheffield Hallam, Olivia Blake, asked the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Department for Business and Trade , Kate Dearden, whether statutory paternity pay would be increased. She also asked if the duration of paternity leave would be extended.

In the question and answer, published last Friday (October 17) Ms Dearden replied: "The standard rate of Statutory Pay, including Statutory Paternity Pay, is reviewed annually at the discretion of the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions .

"From April 2025, the rate increased from £184.03 to £187.18 per week.
