OTTAWA—Under fire over Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre’s criticism of the RCMP senior leadership as “despicable,” the Opposition leader’s office instructed Conservative MPs on Monday to reinforce a more positive message about the nation’s police force.

Talking points sent to Conservative MPs who may face public or media questions about Poilievre’s controversial remarks were obtained by the Star by a confidential source.

They direct Poilievre’s caucus to essentially do damage control over Poilievre’s comments last week , and underscore that the party broadly supports the RCMP, and that its campaign platform promised additional resources for the force.

The note echoes efforts by the leader’s spokesperson last week to emphasize that the Conservative leader’s criticism of the RCMP
