HARRIMAN – Pavement repairs and resurfacing of the Thruway between Woodbury and Newburgh have been completed at a cost of $36.6 million.

The 48-lane miles of superhighway included in the work that began last year, spans from a few miles north of exit 16 (Harriman – Route 6-Rute 17) in Woodbury to exit 17 (Newburgh-Scranton – I-84 -Routes 17K and 300) in Newburgh.

Some 53,000 motorists use that section of highway in both directions each day.

The work included full and partial depth repairs on the pavement. About 85 percent of the Thruway’s roadway base dates to its original construction in the 1950s.

The improvements “are an important investment in Orange County’s transportation network,” said County Executive Steven Neuhaus.
