A group of hunters in the Freetown State Forest on Saturday morning found the skeletal remains of two adults, along with an abandoned car and a suicide note, officials said. The forest is about an hour’s drive due south of Boston.

Fall River police received a 911 call reporting the remains around 9:50 a.m., according to a statement from the Bristol district attorney’s office. Officers responded to the hunters’ location off a forest access road, where they found an abandoned Honda Accord and the note.

The group of hunters, who had entered the state forest to go pheasant hunting, told investigators they found the abandoned vehicle deep in the woods off Copicut Road, according to a statement from Fall River Police. In the “immediate area” of the vehicle, they found the two remains.
