ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta Police Department (APD) arrested a man on Monday after he reportedly threatened to "shoot up" the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
The 49-year-old man from Cartersville, Ga., had reportedly told his family about his plans to open fire at the busiest airport in the country.
Police said the man was a convicted felon and that they found an AR-15 rifle and 27 rounds of ammunition in his pickup truck after he was taken into custody at the domestic terminal.
Officials held a press conference on the incident at approximately 3 p.m., where Atlanta Mayor said “we’re thankful to God” that the tragedy was averted.
