After a long break, Premier Doug Ford’s governing Progressive Conservatives returned to the legislature Monday with an omnibus bill to remove municipal speed cameras, cut red tape, expedite permit approvals, and boost labour mobility for health-care workers, among other professionals.
Against the backdrop of rising unemployment and economic uncertainty due to U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs on Canadian goods, the Tories tabled the Building A More Competitive Economy Act aimed at streamlining the regulatory burden for businesses.
“We’re under attack by President Trump, and he’s coming after us, but we just got elected the third majority government to protect the people, and that’s exactly what we’re doing,” Ford told the legislature.
