ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) - Anderson County officials closed a portion of Oak Hill Drive after an erosion problem was found under the road.
Drivers who normally use the road to travel between Harriet Circle and Highway 81 North can expect their commute to look different this week.
“We had gotten a call this past Thursday -- around 3 p.m. -- that there was some issue with the cross line, which is a pipe that goes under the road here at Oak Hill Drive," said Samuel Baker, the county's principal engineer for the roads and bridges department. "[Crews] came out and looked at it and there was a large wash out under the road."
Baker said a utility service company discovered the wash out, which is when the soil underneath a road erodes, causing water to wash away the supporting soil.
