The Ontario government’s stance on banning automated speed enforcement cameras has thrown a wrench in Front of Yonge Township’s plans.

Front of Yonge was in the process of obtaining speed cameras to install in Mallorytown before the Ford government threw the township a curveball by stating it wants potentially to ban automated speed enforcement cameras in the province.

“We’ve been working on getting these cameras in Mallorytown for about five months,” said Front of Yonge Mayor Roger Haley. “Over the last several years, we’ve had a lot of complaints about speeding in the village. We’ve been working with the OPP on this, but they’re restricted by manpower, so having cameras would make the most sense.”
