UNION GROVE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Marshall County Coroner says an 8-year-old boy died Sunday evening in an ATV accident.

Marshall County Coroner Cody Nugent said the single vehicle accident happened on private property on Rescue Road in Union Grove.

The coroner said the child was thrown from the ATV and received serious injuries.

Nugent said the child was then taken by ambulance to Huntsville Hospital and later airlifted to Children's Hospital in Birmingham.

The coroner said the boy died on Monday. The coroner's office said it would not be releasing the name of the boy due to his age.

The incident remains under investigation by both the coroner's office and the Marshall County Sheriff's Office.
