University of Maine hockey fans in southern Maine will get a bonus game at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland this season.

Not only will they get to see the Black Bears take on Hockey East rival UMass Lowell on Dec. 10, they will now be able to see them face off against Northeastern University on Feb. 27.

That’s because Northeastern’s historic Matthews Arena is being demolished. So the Huskies’ men’s and women’s programs will be playing at a variety of different venues following the Matthews finale on Dec. 13 between the Northeastern and Boston University’s men’s teams.

The UMaine women’s hockey team will face the Huskies on Feb. 5 at the Walter Brown Arena on the Boston University campus.

All three games involving the UMaine and Northeastern teams will have a 7 p.m. puck drop.
