Councillors have been slammed for not attending online training earlier this year. The critique was made at a meeting of Middlesbrough Council ’s standards committee.

During the meeting on Monday October 20, Ann-Marie Wilson, Middlesbrough ’s head of legal, alongside councillors, voiced discontent with the poor turnout at training which focussed on standards and code of conduct.

During the meeting, suggestions were made as to how to improve the turnout at such training sessions, with the most recent external training costing the local authority more than £1,000. In more positive news, members heard that the number of ongoing complaints against councillors was down on previous meetings .

Committee members were told that as of October 1, there are a total of five ongoing complaints
