An alleged fraudster is set to appear in court accused of failing to carry out building work. John Paul Maughan is alleged to have entered into contracts worth over £11,000 with the same consumer in Hartlepool .
The 49-year-old is charged with being a trader engaging in ‘aggressive commercial practice’. It is alleged that Maughan advised a woman that ‘water would get into her roof, if work was not carried out and that such an action was therefore likely to cause the average consumer to take a transactional decision they would not have taken otherwise, through the use of harassment, coercion or undue influence, and thereby caused or was likely to cause him to take a transactional decision he would not have taken otherwise’.
