ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (WAVE) - The city of Elizabethtown is moving forward with plans to expand the regional airport there. Officials have acquired land near the airport to build a new runway.
Carl Swope, board chair of the Elizabethtown Regional Airport, said the 220 acres, located right next to the airport, would help support more traffic and larger planes. Swope said a new runway would also open the door for a potential new partnership with Fort Knox.
“Fort Knox has been talking to us about an interest in partnering and the ability to even potentially be able to deploy out of the Elizabethtown Airport because Godman Field will not be able to expand,” he explained. “And they would need that kind of capacity.”
