FAYETTE COUNTY, W.Va. — A man is in custody in connection with a deadly hit-and-run on the West Virginia Turnpike from earlier this month.

Anthony W. Hay, 60, of Huntington was arrested and is charged with hit-and-run resulting in death. Hay was arrested after a nearly three-week investigation.

Hay allegedly was driving a tractor-trailer and fatally struck Jack Walter, 63, of Middlesex, N.C., near mile marker 63 on October 3. Family said that Walter was changing a tire on the side of the road when he was struck.

According to the criminal complaint, which was filed in Fayette County Magistrate Court, troopers were able to comb through footage from commercial vehicles, toll booths, and other roadways along the turnpike. They used that footage to help identify Hay.
