LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Governor Andy Beshear announced Monday a reallocation of $9.1 million to pay for senior meals.
Funding ran out for the program as the state faces a $305 million budget shortfall.
“This wasn’t a routine or regular movement of budgeted dollars,” Beshear said, “but required we find a usable, specific pot of money. To be clear, such a pot likely won’t be available in the future for this or other programs.”
“I can’t go to the grocery. I mean, I don’t drive. I don’t have a car. I just depend on them,” Louisville resident Florence Ernst said.
Ernst is 94 years old and unable to shop or cook for herself. She is one of 900 Jefferson County residents who depend on the program and worried to find out deliveries might be interrupted.
