The historic Vani Vilas Sagar (Marikanive Dam) near Hiriyur in Chitradurga district has filled to capacity and overflowed for the fourth time in its history and remarkably, for the second time this year.

Nestled between two lush green hills across the Vedavathi River , the century-old dam, a vital lifeline for the region, began overflowing on Sunday morning following continuous rainfall and fresh inflow from the Bhadra reservoir .
