A solid blue light on police cruisers in Worcester, Massachusetts, is now standard operating procedure as the city looks to make streets safer while raising the profile of law enforcement.
"We had a lot of people flagging down our officers, telling them, 'Hey, your blue lights are on,' which is good because it's community engagement," said Worcester Police Sgt. Else Miranda.

The sirens of marked cruisers will be silent, but the blue lights will remain on, without flashing, for most routine patrols.
Sirens and flashing lights will still be used in emergency situations.
