MINNEAPOLIS — On Tuesday morning, Minneapolis Public Schools and its teachers union will head into its final mediation session, trying to negotiate a new contract.

Without a resolution, teachers could vote to strike later this week.

The two parties narrowly avoided a strike just last year, reaching an agreement the night before the union voted whether to authorize one.

But new data shows, it's not just Minneapolis - in fact, about three quarters of all districts across the state have yet to settle their contacts for 2025-2027.

"We want a safe, stable, destination district and that is what we're fighting for every day," said Education Support Professionals of the Minneapolis Federation of Educators (MFE) President Catina Taylor.
