Rail passengers are being told to check before they travel over the Christmas period as engineering works will mean that many services will not run. From Christmas Day, major works will be happening in the Cambridge area for up to 11 days.
Network Rail have said that during this time, they will carry out the second stage of the signalling renewal programme. The first stage of the work was completed last Christmas.
This year, a new control system will be introduced to control the signals between Cambridge North and Audley End. The new digital workstation at the Cambridge signalling centre will replace the old 40-year-old signalling panel, which will mean that operations should run more effectively.
