OMAHA, Neb. —

While some Omaha Business Improvement Districts are well established, others are just finding their footing.

The South Omaha BID, made up of businesses along South 24th Street, was approved in 2021.

The Omaha City Council is set to hear input from the public on Tuesday on if the South Omaha BID should continue into 2026. It's expected to be a procedural, routine action by the council.

A city attorney says BIDs usually are set to sunset when they are created. The Omaha City Council needs to act to keep the BID running beyond 2025.

Businesses Improvement Districts are quasi-government organizations made possible by state law and created by the city. The mayor and city council must approve the boards of the organizations.
