The Q1 tower, a prominent landmark on the Gold Coast , has reached its 20th anniversary.
Conceived as a monumental structure, the building's design was ambitious from the outset.
"We came up with the idea [of] twin towers 40 storeys, what if [they were] put on top of each other," property developer Soheil Abedian said.
Inspired by the Sydney 2000 Olympic torch, the Q1 is considered a significant engineering achievement.
Construction involved over 61,000 cubic metres of concrete and 2.5 million work hours, culminating in a total cost of $500 million.
The building, which took three years to complete, originally held the title of the world's tallest residential building with 79 levels.
Its spire extends the structure to 322 metres above sea level.
