TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA)—A tropical storm is expected to form later today as the system moves over the central Caribbean Sea.

According to the National Hurricane Center, Invest 98-L over the central Caribbean Sea continues to become more well-defined, with winds near 45 mph.

Conditions are expected to become more conducive for development, and a tropical storm is expected to form later today.

Heavy rainfall and winds are possible for parts of the ABC Islands during the next couple of days.

Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, Jamaica, and Cuba should monitor the progress of this system because of a risk of heavy rain, flooding, strong winds, and rough surf later this week.

The chance of formation in the next 48 hours is 90 percent.

The chance of formation in the next seven days is 90 percent.
