Every motorist could soon face higher costs as the Chancellor prepares a series of tax reforms aimed at filling a growing hole in Britain’s public finances.
Rachel Reeves is examining ways to ensure “all drivers pay their fair share”, as the Treasury seeks to replace the billions in fuel duty revenue that will vanish with a move towards electric cars .
In her Budget next month, the Chancellor will also be looking for ways to raise revenue as she tackles a reported £40bn black hole in the public finances .
Reeves confirmed last week that she was already considering “further measures on tax” ahead of 26 November – in the clearest sign yet that tax rises are on the way. New Feature
