A large-scale irregularity has been uncovered in the treasure of Kerala’s famous Krishna temple, Guruvayur. The state’s audit department, in its report for 2019-20 and 2020-21, stated that there were serious mismanagement and procedural lapses in handling the temple’s gold, silver, and other valuables.
According to the report, there was massive manipulation of the gold and silver utensils used in daily rituals. The double-lock registers that recorded the items revealed that the items returned to the temple management, Guruvayur Devaswom, often weighed less than when issued.
