HOWARD COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) - The man accused of shooting at multiple officers during a welfare check wants his trial postponed and moved to Black Hawk County.
Mark Zweibohmer, 45, is charged with four counts of attempted murder of a peace officer.
Zweibohmer asked last week for a change of venue from Howard County to Black Hawk County. He argues that he would not receive a fair trial because of local media coverage.
The state requested on Monday that the location change be denied, saying Zweibohmer’s argument was speculative and too late to make the request.
His attorney has also filed to postpone the trial as they wait on the results of a psychological evaluation. The state agreed that a the trial should be rescheduled.
The judge hasn’t yet scheduled a hearing for the requests.
