The Seattle Mariners’ magical postseason run came to an end on Monday night after a 4-3 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. For many fans, the finger of blame was pointed squarely at manager Dan Wilson. The Mariners were leading 3-1 in Game 7 of the ALCS when one bullpen decision changed everything.

Wilson went to the bullpen and summoned Eduard Bazardo to face George Springer in the bottom of the seventh inning. The move backfired almost instantly. Springer crushed a three-run homer to left field, flipping the score to 4-3, sending the Blue Jays to the World Series.

The decision bamboozled many Mariners fans who questioned why All-Star closer Andres Munoz, who hadn’t given up a single run all postseason, wasn’t brought in.
